Magical Ingredient: Infused Oil

I really LOVE when something is super easy and super effective, I'm all about the Practical & the Magical.  Infused oil definitely checks both these boxes and once you have the basics down the possibilities are endless.

Some of the ways Infused oils can be used are:

~ In cooking for flavor and health

~ Topically on the body to beautify, soothe or add to a balm or salve.

~ Magically to dress candles, anoint stones, tools, spaces and you.

I know once you get started you will find your own ways to incorporate infused oils into your world.  Share your discoveries and ideas, tips + tricks in the comments.

The Practical Part

Ingredients

  • Oil

  • DRIED Herbs - the water in fresh herbs can cause mold and spoil the fun.

  • Jar with tight lid

Directions

~ Fill jar ½ with DRIED herbs of your choice.

~ Cover the herbs & fill the jar with oil of your choice.

~ Use a chopstick to gently push the herbs down and release air bubbles.  You want the plant material to be submerged the whole time.

~ Label for oil with ingredients and date.  This is SUPER important.

~ Store in a cool, dry dark place a minimum of a month

~ After about 30 days, strain out the herbs.

The Magical Part

So now the fun stuff.  This whole process is a spell.  ( EVERYTHING IS A SPELL!)

Why are you creating this oil?
Get Clear on your intention for creating this oil.  What are you calling in?  Or what are you releasing?  Once you have this it will be your compass for all the choices to follow. Hold this information clear in your heart as you go through each process.

Choosing your Oil:
A good Olive Oil is probably the most flexible since you can eat it and use it topically but the end use can help decide the perfect oil for your Spell.  Jojoba and Sweet Almond are lovely if you will use it on your skin or add it to a salve.  Explore, research, discover the oil that will best suit your needs.

Choose your Herbs:
Similar premise to the oil.  End use and intention are your guides.  You use a blend of herbs or focus on just one.  Consider both their medicinal, energetic and magical properties.  Maybe there is a plant that keeps 'just popping' into your path.  For me that has been Iris so I've been learning about her lore and uses & I'm considering using Orris ( Iris Root) in an infusion.

Timing:
Consider the Moon cycles as part of your process.  30 days is often recommended for the amount of time to let the herbs sit in the oil which is pretty much a Moon cycle.  Do you want waxing or waning energy? Or the bright light of the Full Moon?

Add Ons & Extras:
You can include crystals and stones in the oil ( check to make sure that is safe for your end use and the stone) or just rest a crystal on top of the jar to layer on that type of energy.

Tie ribbons or bits of cloth in significant colors around the jar as it infuses for a dose of color magic.

USE YOUR IMAGINATION and have FUN.
